Hi my name is Karla and I am an award winning newborn and family photographer based Kaiapoi, North Canterbury.
Inspired by the birth of my wee girl Honor, my photography business started as a hobby and grew rapidly from there mostly due to referrals and by word of mouth. My journey to where I am today has been one of hard work and sheer determination. Through being a member of the New Zealand Institute of Professional Photographers I have met some incredible people who have inspired me and pushed me to achieve my most wildest dreams.
I am truly lucky to do the job I do!
I have a real love for photographing children - their little personalities are authentic and genuine. From soft and quiet, shy and timid to boisterous and confident – each child is precious and unique and being able to capture those little personalities for parents makes my heart very happy!
I feel an immense sense of pride when I capture an extra special image, a memory which speaks to the hearts of parents and loved ones, framing a moment in time.
I know first-hand how quickly the years go by, my little girl is 8 now and even though that doesn’t seem like a long time, it is incredible how quickly she has changed from month to month, year to year. I made the decision to document her life before she was born, I wanted to capture every moment and have those memories forever.
For her, for her Mama and for future generations.

I am friendly; extremely easy going and I like to make photography fun. I genuinely enjoy getting to know you and your family, I love meeting new people and look forward to hearing your stories. I want you to enjoy every minute of your photography session with me, my goal is to bring out the very best in you and your family and to capture images that I feel are real and true.
I am a Mum so I have first hand experience dealing with children! I have a lovely way with kids; I have always found it easy to relate to them. Generally I only have a short time to get to know your little ones but during that time I am able to build up their trust so they feel comfortable and at ease with me. We always have a fun time, I make sure the session flows and keep things interesting. I arrive at your session with a big smile and an endless amount of patience! At the end of the session chances are I am coming to their birthday party….
I am an accredited member of the New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography. This programme exists to establish a standard of quality among the photography industry. It identifies NZIPP accredited photographers as photographers who have attained a credible quality of standard and ensures clients that I run my business in a professional way with skill and knowledge.
Newborn photography is relatively new to the industry but it is becoming increasingly popular to have your newborn baby photographed within the first two weeks of his or her life. My sessions are done in your home. I take all the stress out of leaving the house by bringing the studio to you. You get about your normal routine and I just fit in with you, this is great if you have other children too.
All professional photography involves a multitude of skills and newborn photography is no different, with one very important exception. I am completely responsible for your brand new tiny and fragile newborn baby. It is a specialised field and requires specific skills. I have spent many hours training and perfecting my newborn photography. I am confident in handling newborn babies and safety is first and foremost. I keep my posing simple and natural; the focus is on your baby and less about the props. I would never compromise your baby’s safety for the sake of a photo.
We are well and truly immersed in a digital world and I understand the desire for families to take ownership of their digital images.
I provide these to my clients but I urge you to print these images as USB’s, CD’s and even hard drives do not last forever.
I also have a beautiful range of prints and canvases, which can be purchased, and packages to suit all budgets.
So to sum it all up, who am I?
A real person, a friendly face, a talented artist and your child’s friend. And on top of all of that, I can almost guarantee I’ll get a smile out of every male partner too!
