So following on from my post earlier in the week, I thought you might like to see a few outtakes of the little shoot I had with Honor on the weekend. The shoot wasn't planned, it was very spur of the moment. I had been talking photography with a client recently and she mentioned to me how I must have 'so many amazing photos of my daughter'... I was like yes I do but OMG ... they don't come easy! And once upon a time I used to pick up the camera weekly .. now I am lucky to photograph her once a month. This particular night I had arrived home from a shoot just as the sun was going down, the light was so pretty! Love Autumn!!! Miss Honor was still bouncing around the house clearly not ready for bed so I seized the opportunity to get a few updated snaps .... ok so it has only been two months since my January photo-a-day challenge but scarily enough, she has even changed since then. Was she keen? Oh yes Mummy! She disappeared for a few minutes and returned wearing a pink and grey dress, a brightly coloured flower headband and clutching a pink pig. She was photo shoot ready. She meant business. I took a deep breath and vowed I would not lose the plot. Photographing your own is tough. It doesn't matter whether you are a pro photographer or a Mum that just wants a decent photo of your kids. Of course I cant speak for all photographers or all Mums but for some reason, I find I have to dig very VERY deep. I also have to work very VERY fast. She was bored after around 8 minutes and then she dictated the rest of the shoot. "Now I will go down the slide. Now I will dance".... Now I will completely ignore you... I tried to ask her questions to get her to evoke real emotion ... I asked her how she felt when her fish died............see exhibit 3rd photo from the bottom. (fail) So the beautiful photo I posted on my Facebook page earlier in the week ... 200 photos later (some of which I have lovingly shared with you below) ... I got my perfect moment :) I'm just holding it together at this stage.... And just when I thought it was time to go home...... This happened...... Boom
So for those Mum's out there trying to nail that perfect photo of your kids..... I feel your pain! Don't give up though .... back off for a few minutes and let them think you are not interested anymore. It works a treat every time. I'll probably put them all in her scrapbook (that I haven't touched since June 2017) because even though they aren't perfect, they are perfect to me :)
