Introducing the beautiful little Alba. I was so honoured to photograph this wee girl when she was just 10 day old at home with her lovely family. Big Sister Willa was such a joy - she gave me the perfect mix of two year old feisty-ness combined with so much love and adoration for her new little sister! I love everything about this beautiful session! I actually love everything everything about lifestyle photography full stop..... I think you will see why! Thank you for inviting me into your home Jordana to capture this special time for your family!
If you have a baby due in 2018/2019 and are wanting a more relaxed style of photography then message me for more information. My newborn lifestyle session may just be for you!

A few weekends ago we made the trip over to Tikao Bay on the Banks Peninsula to do a very special shoot with this gorgeous trio. Up until we arrived I had no idea that this beautiful secluded little spot even existed! It wasn't the nicest of weekends but the light on the tiny little beach was so lovely ... Katie, Zeff & Emma were helping me with another project that is currently underway .. but I couldn't wait to share some of the photos with you. How to make the photo shoot fun for an 8 year old boy ..... you ask him to stand in a spot and see how far he can kick the water to try and get me wet :)
Thanks so much Katie, Zeff & Emma for such a fun shoot ... and for sharing your little slice of paradise with me. I'm sure there will be a lot more photos taken on this beautiful little beach in the years to come! Photographers all over the world are urging Mums to be in photographs with their children ... I know I for one feel very passionate about this. But the truth is, we also struggle to find the time and would preferably be behind the lens than in front of it! Cass asked me a few weeks ago if I could take some updated photos of her and her beautiful babes so last Friday we set off on a photography mission .. kids and Pepper the dog in tow (thats the white blur you see in some of the photos haha!) We found a perfect little spot in amongst the last of the Autumn leaves and this is what we got :) It was truly an honour to photography your beautiful family Cass! Not to mention a whole lot of fun... I am soooo pleased you have some lovely updated memories of your babies xx
Autumn is without a doubt my most favourite time of the year for photography - its when I do the bulk of family sessions and my own personal work too. I am obsessed with everything about this season!! The colours are so beautiful and the light is perfect. Its still nice and warm so easy to get the kids out and about ... the sun sets around 5.30pm so to capture photos in the golden hour is very achievable .. it really is such a lovely time of the year to update your family photos! Last week I met up with Lexi and her gorgeous daughter Lily so she could have some very special Mama & Me photos. Even nearing the end of Autumn there were still plenty of beautiful spots in the gardens ... oh how I love Christchurch at this time of the year! When Spring and Autumn come together in the same photo ... It was so nice to see you both again Lexi ... Lily is adorable, it has been so lovely watching her grow!
So following on from my post earlier in the week, I thought you might like to see a few outtakes of the little shoot I had with Honor on the weekend. The shoot wasn't planned, it was very spur of the moment. I had been talking photography with a client recently and she mentioned to me how I must have 'so many amazing photos of my daughter'... I was like yes I do but OMG ... they don't come easy! And once upon a time I used to pick up the camera weekly .. now I am lucky to photograph her once a month. This particular night I had arrived home from a shoot just as the sun was going down, the light was so pretty! Love Autumn!!! Miss Honor was still bouncing around the house clearly not ready for bed so I seized the opportunity to get a few updated snaps .... ok so it has only been two months since my January photo-a-day challenge but scarily enough, she has even changed since then. Was she keen? Oh yes Mummy! She disappeared for a few minutes and returned wearing a pink and grey dress, a brightly coloured flower headband and clutching a pink pig. She was photo shoot ready. She meant business. I took a deep breath and vowed I would not lose the plot. Photographing your own is tough. It doesn't matter whether you are a pro photographer or a Mum that just wants a decent photo of your kids. Of course I cant speak for all photographers or all Mums but for some reason, I find I have to dig very VERY deep. I also have to work very VERY fast. She was bored after around 8 minutes and then she dictated the rest of the shoot. "Now I will go down the slide. Now I will dance".... Now I will completely ignore you... I tried to ask her questions to get her to evoke real emotion ... I asked her how she felt when her fish died............see exhibit 3rd photo from the bottom. (fail) So the beautiful photo I posted on my Facebook page earlier in the week ... 200 photos later (some of which I have lovingly shared with you below) ... I got my perfect moment :) I'm just holding it together at this stage.... And just when I thought it was time to go home...... This happened...... Boom
So for those Mum's out there trying to nail that perfect photo of your kids..... I feel your pain! Don't give up though .... back off for a few minutes and let them think you are not interested anymore. It works a treat every time. I'll probably put them all in her scrapbook (that I haven't touched since June 2017) because even though they aren't perfect, they are perfect to me :) A few weeks ago I made the trip out to Louburn to photograph this sweet wee girl on her 1st birthday. It was such a beautiful evening, the light was perfect and the location stunning.....and this perfect little princess just made my night! First birthday shoots are so lovely, its a really nice to way to celebrate making it through the first year with your little bundle of joy. Happy birthday beautiful girl :)
Welcome to the world little Theo! This wee guy was just 9 days old when I photographed him at the end of January. Such a lovely session :)
Introducing Ollie who was just 9 days old at his photo session. He was such a good wee boy, it really was such a lovely session. Do you know that all my newborn sessions are done in the clients home? Yes thats right, I travel to you! I bring everything I need for the shoot and turn your lounge or living room into a little studio. You carry on with your morning routine and I simply slot in with you. Those first few weeks with a newborn baby (and possibly a toddler in tow) can be a busy, tiring and sometimes extremely overwhelming time. I love that I can offer this service to parents so that they can sit back and relax and watch the magic unfold in the comfort of their own home :)
Here are a few photos from Ollie's session a few weeks ago - such a little dude don't you think?! Every January I set myself the task of photographing my daughter every day for the entire month. This is my 3rd January photo a day challenge and I have to say, even though it does get a wee bit tedious at times ...... it is one project I get so much enjoyment out of! As my business grows and gets busier my personal photos do get pushed aside so this is a nice way of capturing such a lovely time of the year. I try and think outside the square and attempt things I wouldn't normally do with a typical client shoot. I push myself to see the beauty in every day things, shoot from different angles and think outside the square. I hope you enjoy looking through my January :) "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go."
"Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive that is youer than you" "Think left and think right, think low and think high. Oh, the things you can think up if only you try!" "Kid, you'll move mountains! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting. So get on your way!" -Dr Seuss And thats a wrap for January 2018! What a beautiful collection of memories I have for me and my girl.... I have loved sharing them with you! On a beautiful Winter's evening a few week ago I met with Alexia and Jae and their gorgeous daughter Lily at the top of Rapaki Track. I photographed this little girl as a tiny newborn baby one whole year ago. Alexia and Jae decided to use their complimentary mini session to celebrate Lily turning one. And what a gorgeous shoot it was! Stunning evening, stunning views and stunning models! Such a gorgeous family :)
Enjoy the photos everyone! |
